site design

For many of our customers the company web site is an issue that has dropped into their lap and they’ve contacted a local web site designer (or Fred in the drawing office) to build an extended version of their brochure on-line.

Great, you can now tell everyone that you have a web site and stick the URL on your business card.

Unfortunately the 75%+ that you can’t tell directly and who find web sites by search engines will not find your site – Your web site should be designed to be found by human beings wanting to make commercial transactions relating to your products. End of story. A “pretty looking” site is useless if it’s never found!

So what do we do?

Some or all of the stages below may be required depending on the state of your current on-line offering:

  1. Look at your business - what do you sell and who buys your products. Don’t forget we’re engineers and scientists so you don’t have to explain where Stainless 316, Aluminium Oxide or Nylon 66 is used, why it’s used and what the benefits are. – The big IT boys call this “Understanding your business and the development of an on-line strategy”.
  2. Work with you to decide the best approach to presenting your data and content case histories to ensure that it’s found by prospective customers searching for your products.
  3. Produce a site map schematic for you to see how it all fits together. Depending on the size of your site there may be a cost involved in this stage.
  4. Produce graphic mock-ups of the site design.
  5. Benchmark how the current site is performing on typical “business searches” used by your customers.
  6. Agree what is required for us to demonstrate that we have delivered business benefits and agree a price for the delivery.
  7. Build the site using current best practices and appropriate technology, conduct the search engine optimization and implement some listings to boost your presence.
