search engine optimisationMany web sites have great content but their architecture prevents the content from being found by search engines. Over 75% of new visitors to your site arrive via search engines, if you’re not being found in searches your web site doesn’t exist. Currently, the most popular search engine is google.com . It’s success, as with many things in life is due to it’s simplicity. Although there are some quite complex mathematical algorithms behind google and it analyses around 100 features on each web page, fundamentally, google works because it uses the web as a big voting system. A site with 100 incoming links on subject A is deemed more important that a site with 2 incoming links on the same subject A. Of course to do well with google or any other relevance based search engine it’s not simply a case of having lots of incoming links, you also have to let the spiders that crawl your site into your site and its content. Let’s get this straight, there are no great secrets about search engine optimization, it’s really a case of doing lots of little things right. Plus, if you have interesting and attractive content you’ll always be helping your cause – the web votes for great content. A word of warning. If you have read the above and are thinking all I need to do is to produce lots of backlinks to my site from some more sites I’ll produce for the purpose – don’t. Google strongly advises web masters against doing anything that is secretive or underhand. We’ll quite happily tell you everything we intend to do to make your site more attractive to search engines. We’ll also not give you any spurious guarantees about search engine rankings – it is not possible to give such guarantees without risking the viability of your business on-line and risking the chance of your site being thrown out of search engine indices. However, do we have success stories about how our customers now achieve first page listings for their key searches? Yes we do and we are more than happy to share these with you. |
