AZoM-Webservices are brought to you by the same team of AZoNetwork engineers, scientists and programmers responsible for some of the largest and most significant science, technology and medical destinations on the web – www.AZoM.com - The A to Z of Materials, www.AZoNano.com - The A to Z of Nanotechnology and www.News-Medical.Net the A to Z of Medical News. Since launch in September 2001, the AZoNetwork suite of sites has grown to over 2.4 million visitor sessions per month and has received many accolades from independent commentators. In the course of building the AZoNetwork sites we were asked by several customers to help them with their own web sites. The attraction being that we could show with AZoM.com what could be done in conveying scientific and industrial information to the world and we speak the language of engineers and scientists, not IT bods. We were also asked to license the AZo"X" portal code into other areas of science and technology where the AZo"X" concept would be well received. So, somewhat inadvertently we find ourselves here, offering to help materials, engineering and science organizations make the best of their on-line offerings. We’re based in Sydney which is a relatively low cost software development environment and we’re headed up by Dr. Ian Birkby. Ian is a metallurgist with a Ph.D. in the friction and wear behaviour of advanced ceramics. Ian is also a successful entrepreneur who spent 10 years developing and subsequently selling a European based advanced ceramic manufacturing business. He formed AZoM.com in 2000, because he believed the web had much to offer to materials producing organizations if used effectively (he is also fond of telling anyone who will listen that his motivation was he was "fed up of wasting money on print media advertising and failed IT initiatives") Dr. Cameron Chai is our Editor in Chief and specialist copy writer with over 10 years experience in materials production and manufacturing related industries. Cam has served on many committees for the Australisian Ceramic Society. Joel Scanlon is our CTO (Chief Technology Officer), with over 10 years experience in web site development, search engine optimisation and web graphics, Flash Design and database structures. Jo has experience of supervising the production of over 60 major web site and extranet/intranet developments.
